Former House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi plans to take the Rhode Island Ethics Commission to court after the panel on Tuesday twice rejected his efforts to dismiss a complaint challenging his application to join the state’s Supreme Court.

With 79 days to go until Rhode Island’s Democratic primary, the two Democratic frontrunners for governor officially filed their declaration of candidacy paperwork less than three hours apart Tuesday afternoon. But only one took questions from reporters.

An Arkansas woman says she was denied prompt miscarriage care in August 2022 while living in Missouri. It was the beginning of a cascade of health problems and medical debt that she blames, at least in part, on hospitals’ reluctance to provide miscarriage management care that might run afoul of state abortion bans.

The U.S. House passed a bipartisan housing policy overhaul Tuesday on a 358-32 vote, aiming to lower the cost of homeownership as members of both parties attempt to focus on affordability issues ahead of November’s midterm elections. Rhode Island’s U.S. Rep. Gabe Amo called the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act a "critical step toward lowering housing costs and ensuring everyone has a roof over their heads" in a statement Tuesday night.
