President Donald Trump is looking to eliminate funding in fiscal 2027 for the agency that serves as the primary federal funding source for libraries and museums nationwide. But congressional appropriators as well as groups representing museums and libraries across the country are blasting the president’s proposal.

Rhode Islanders don’t need to wait 10 years or more for a new publicly funded medical school at the University of Rhode Island to increase the state’s supply of primary care physicians. A promising family medicine residency program coming to Woonsocket next year can do that. But it is being threatened by federal funding cuts.
